After reaching the playoffs in 2021, the Arizona Cardinals fell hard this past season. Now, it’s a whole new ball game in the desert these days.

It’s hard to believe how far the team has fallen since its impressive 7-0 start in 2021. The Arizona Cardinals won just four games this past season and closed the year with seven consecutive losses. In their last 29 outings, including a playoff loss to the Rams in ’21, the club owns a disappointing 9-20 record.

Kliff Kingsbury is out after four seasons and one postseason appearance. Enter Jonathan Gannon, the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive coordinator for the past two seasons. It’s safe to say he has his work cut out for him.

Cardinals draft picks 2023

New general manager Monti Ossenfort, late of the Tennessee Titans’ front office, has eight selections in this year’s draft, including the fourth overall and a pair of picks in both the third and sixth rounds.

  • Round 1: 3rd overall
  • Round 2: 34th overall
  • Round 3: 66th overall
  • Round 3: 96th overall
  • Round 4: 105th overall
  • Round 5: 168th overall
  • Round 6: 180th overall
  • Round 6: 213th overall
  • Round 7: None

The Cardinals were rewarded with three compensatory selections. Their original fifth-round pick went to the Buffalo Bills for offensive lineman Cody Ford. Arizona doesn’t have a seventh-round choice after acquiring cornerback Trayvon Mullen from the Raiders last year.

Cardinals draft needs 2023

Ossenfort and the Cards didn’t do a lot in free agency. The team signed three linebackers, including Kyzir White. He finished second on the Eagles with 110 tackles this past season. Here are the team’s needs courtesy of Pro Football Focus (subscription required).

  1. Guard
  2. Center
  3. Edge
  4. Cornerback

Will the Cardinals address their quarterback situation in the draft? Kyler Murray suffered a knee injury late last season and could actually miss most of 2023. In terms of the offensive line, the team added guard Hjalte Froholdt (Browns) and tackle Dennis Daley (Titans) in free agency.

The former played in all 17 games for Cleveland this past season and made a career-best six starts. The 2020 fourth-round pick of the New England Patriots could be the replacement for center Rodney Hudson.
