Free agent wide receiver Odell Beckham has reportedly received multiple contract offers, but this one team is seen as the most likely landing spot for him.
The 2023 NFL year has been underway for the past couple of weeks, and some of the top names have signed on with their new teams or opted to stay with their current organizations. For teams in need of a wide receiver, the biggest name available is Odell Beckham Jr., who has been a free agent since after the 2021 season, where he tore his ACL in Super Bowl 56. After a workout in Arizona this month, teams have begun talking with Beckham about a contract.
Is there a frontrunner?
According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano (subscription required), Beckham has received multiple offers from teams, but the New York Jets are viewed as his most likely landing spot. Graziano notes that Beckham could be waiting for the Jets’ trade for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers to finalize before agreeing to join them.
Jets reportedly likely landing spot for Odell Beckham Jr.
The Jets have been linked to Beckham recently, most notably with the team’s pursuit of Rodgers. There was an ESPN report of Rodgers having Beckham on his wish list of players for the Jets to consider adding. Not to mention that SNY’s Connor Hughes mentions that Rodgers and Beckham are close and that they have discussed playing together in New York.
As for the Rodgers front, it appears as though the deal is getting closer to getting completed. According to Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson, the Jets could send a 2023 second-round pick and a 2024 second-rounder that could turn into a first-rounder based off performance to the Packers in exchange for Rodgers. But, the Jets are looking for some compensation in return if Rodgers doesn’t play past the 2023 season.
Beckham last played in the 2021 season, splitting time between the Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Rams. In 14 regular-season games, Beckham recorded 44 receptions for 537 yards and five touchdowns on 82 targets. In Los Angeles’ run to a Super Bowl 56 victory, Beckham caught 21-of-26 targets for 288 yards and two touchdowns.
After fully recovering from a torn ACL in Super Bowl 56, Beckham is looking to sign with a team ahead of the 2023 season. From the sounds of it, the Jets are the most likely standing spot for Beckham.
